Frequently Asked Questions

How does the data export work?#

The extension uses Reddit's public JSON API endpoints through your browser session. No API keys or developer accounts needed. It handles rate limits automatically and processes everything locally.

Is my data secure?#

Absolutely. All processing happens locally in your browser using IndexedDB for storage. No data is sent to external servers. Your exported files are saved directly to your computer.

What data can I export?#

You can export saved posts, upvoted/downvoted content, your submitted posts, comments, full post comment trees, post media, subreddit posts, search results (posts, comments, communities, media, people), and Reddit chat messages including images.

Are there limits on how much data I can export?#

The free version supports up to 1,000 records per task. The Pro version removes this limit entirely. Note that Reddit's own API has a ~1,000 item pagination limit for some endpoints like saved/upvoted, but post comments, subreddit posts, and search results can export much more.

How does the chat export work?#

Reddit chat uses the Matrix protocol internally. The extension authenticates with Reddit's Matrix server to fetch messages and media from your chat rooms. This is a unique feature not available in other Reddit export tools.

Do I need to be logged in to Reddit?#

Yes, you need to be logged in to Reddit in your browser. The extension uses your browser session cookies to access the API. Some data like saved and upvoted posts requires authentication by nature.
